Cory And Topanga Return In First Girl Meets World Teaser

If you happen to be of a certain age, then chances are you grew up watching Boy Meets World on ABC. The series followed Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) and his friends Topanga (Danielle Fishel) and Shawn (Rider Strong) as they grew from cheeky sixth graders to responsible college students. Now, Cory and Topanga are married and have kids of their own, and are starring on the Disney Channel's new sitcom Girl Meets World. The first teaser trailer for the show premiered today, and it's enough to whet our appetites for more middle-school shenanigans.

Now, Cory and Topanga are married and have kids of their own, and are starring on the Disney Channel’s new sitcom Girl Meets World. The first teaser trailer for the show premiered today, and it’s enough to whet our appetites for more middle-school shenanigans.

This being the Disney Channel, Girl Meets World is going to focus more on Cory and Topanga’s daughter Riley (Rowan Blanchard) than on what’s become of our once favorite sitcom couple, but that doesn’t mean the elder crowd among us won’t find something to enjoy. In fact, the teaser trailer actually seems to assume that at least half the audience for this show will be made up of people who remember Boy Meets World. Ben Savage’s Cory features more in the thirty seconds of footage than ostensible star Rowan Blanchard, as he informs his daughter that he’s on to her little games.

Girl Meets World has a fine line to walk, though. As well as appeasing the elder fans of Boy Meets World, it also has to appeal to the younger demographic that makes up most of the Disney Channel’s viewership. So the show cannot depend too much on nostalgic memories, but neither can it totally ignore the pasts of the adult characters. If they manage to pull it off, Girl Meets World could be a lot of fun.

Coming in at just thirty seconds, the teaser trailer gives us nothing more than a taste of what’s to come. In fact, we’ve still yet to see some of our favorite characters, including Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) and Shawn, that have promised to make cameo appearances.

Girl Meets World premieres on the Disney Channel this summer. Check out the teaser trailer below.
