Earlier this year, we learned that Disney XD had decided to cancel the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series in order to focus on a new Spider-Man show which would be headed up by the team of story editor Kevin Shinick (Robot Chicken) and supervising director Philip Pignotti (Avengers Assemble).

The plan apparently is to focus on the “insecure yet courageous teenager Peter Parker as he learns that with great power comes great responsibility – especially when you get the strange abilities of a spider.” So, classic Spider-Man then, but some new merchandise has now surfaced which points to both Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen playing a role here. While that shouldn’t be taken as confirmation that we’ll see either of those characters in the upcoming series, it’s interesting that Marvel is choosing to put the spotlight on them.

We know that Miles will probably be the star of the upcoming Spider-Man animated movie from Sony Animation, but considering the fact that Spider-Gwen hails from an alternate reality, she could very well star in a spinoff from Sony which stands apart from the wall-crawler’s upcoming MCU adventures.

We’ll just have to wait and see, but this artwork also confirms that Venom will be showing up as well, ensuring that Spider-Man‘s next TV show will be well worth a watch.
