Fear The Walking Dead Season 3 Featurette Looks To The Road Ahead

For a show that largely revolves around a mass population of the undead shuffling aimlessly from one patch of land to the next in search of fresh meat to gnaw on, AMC’s The Walking Dead universe tends to move along at a relatively brisk clip.

There is perhaps no better example of that breathless pace than the ending of the show’s seventh season, which concluded just as it began: an intense scene featuring Rick Grimes and Co. staring death in the face. And though it may not attract the viewing figures of its brethren, Fear The Walking Dead is now on the verge of launching its third season. It’ll get going with a two-hour premiere on Sunday, June 4th, and AMC has today unveiled what is surely one of the final featurettes to drum up excitement for the network’s returning companion series.

Though he may not feature in the video up above, Entertainment Weekly brings word that Daniel Salazar (Ruben Blades) will indeed feature in Fear The Walking Dead season 3 after all. Last seen setting fire to an entire Mexican compound, viewers believed that they had truly seen the last of Salazar. Turns out that’s not the case though, according to showrunner Dave Erickson.

We’ve said publicly that he didn’t die in the fire. And I think what was always important is that the characters, specifically Ofelia, thought that they had lost him. So I think his return is now long overdue and I can promise that Daniel Salazar will rise again over the course of the season.

In terms of the overarching conflict that’s set to span FTWD season 3, Erickson went on to tease the new threats that await.

“They prepared for the apocalypse. They didn’t expect the rise of the dead, but they definitely anticipated the fall of democracy.” Leading the militia is Jeremiah Otto Sr. (Dayton Callie), seen briefly last year capturing Ofelia (Mercedes Mason). “He’s the king of his domain, and his intention is to create a new nation in his own mold.”

Fear The Walking Dead returns with a two-hour premiere Sunday, June 4th at 9:00 pm ET/PT, while those across the pond can expect season 3 to kick off via AMC’s UK channel in the early hours of Monday morning. But will you be tuning in to catch the next chapter in the story of the Clarks? Do let us know.
