HBO’s fantasy flagship reached the end of its penultimate season late last night with the premiere of “The Dragon and the Wolf,” but don’t worry; no spoilers here! Instead, the gallery below is designed to bring some levity to Westeros, which has been embroiled in a far-reaching and seemingly never-ending war of fire and ice ever since season 7 began.

In her pursuit of the Iron Throne, Daenerys Targaryen has touched down on Westeros with a formidable army that spans land, sea, and sky – the latter being covered by those three full-grown dragons. Meanwhile, in King’s Landing, the crazed Cersei Lannister has seized control of Highgarden and, thanks to the help of Euron Greyjoy and his monstrous fleet, wiped out her enemies from Dorne in the most horrific way imaginable. When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die, as the mad queen once said.

But enough drama for now; below, you’ll find five behind-the-scenes snaps featuring Lena Headey (Cersei) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie) sharing a laugh in King’s Landing and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) taking shelter while filming scenes aboard Dragonstone, which is shot on location on the Spanish isle of Gaztelugatxe.

Game of Thrones season 7 came to an end last night with the super-sized “The Dragon and the Wolf.” Filming on the eighth and final season is expected to get underway until October, which ought to ensure the show’s last hurrah makes that tentative summer 2018 release window.

And after that? HBO plans to explore one (or more?) prequel series centering on some of Westeros’ famous stories. So far, we understand the network has solicited story pitches from Max Borenstein (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) and George R.R. Martin himself, who’s still busy putting the finishing touches to his novel sequel, The Winds of Winter.
