The last time we saw the bastard son of Robert Baratheon, he was escaping from Dragonstone with the aid of Ser Davos, who stuck him in a boat and told him to head back towards his home in King’s Landing. We haven’t heard a thing about him since, but it looks like the former blacksmith is going to return to replay the favor at a pivotal moment next season – and it seems young Gendry has become just as handy with a warhammer as his late father was back in the day.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s going on in the scene courtesy of WatchersOnTheWall.com:

Davos and Gendry are together preparing the boat to leave when two gold cloaks approach. Davos demonstrates that the boat is innocently empty by pulling back the tarp. He appears to then bribe the gold cloaks, who turn to leave, but just then Tyrion appears. The gold cloaks see Tyrion and come back- perhaps they recognize him or suspect he’s Tyrion Lannister, the most famous dwarf in the world? Davos tries to talk to them again but but the guards are grabbing at their swords. That’s when Gendry intervenes, picks up his warhammer (!) from the boat and striking them down from behind. Then Davos, Tyrion, and Gendry push the boat offshore and get the hell out of dodge.

The fact that Tyrion and Davos are now in cahoots would also seem to confirm that Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow will form an alliance at some point. Gods help the Lannisters!
