Gotham’s At A Tipping Point In New Teaser

At this point, there's absolutely no questioning that Gotham is the most-anticipated television event of this fall. Charting the origins of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), destined to become the troubled city's police commissioner, and the early days of some of Batman's most feared rogues while the Dark Knight himself was just a wee lad (David Mazouz) traumatized by his parents' deaths, it looks set to break out with comic-book aficionados and procedural fans alike. Now, a new teaser for the Fox series has been released, highlighting the show's moody atmosphere and stacked cast of characters.

At this point, there’s absolutely no questioning that Gotham is the most-anticipated television event of this fall. Charting the origins of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), destined to become the troubled city’s police commissioner, and the early days of some of Batman’s most feared rogues while the Dark Knight himself was just a wee lad (David Mazouz) traumatized by his parents’ deaths, it looks set to break out with comic-book aficionados and procedural fans alike. Now, a new teaser for the Fox series has been released, highlighting the show’s moody atmosphere and stacked cast of characters.

In the brief teaser, we hear voice-over from Gordon as he reaffirms his dedication to fighting corruption in his city as he approaches a crime scene, passing such villains as Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor), a cat-clutching Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) and Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith), a vicious gangster created especially for the show. Also of note – Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith), a forensic scientist for the GCPD with a clear affinity for question marks…

Though this scene is clearly a promo and not something we’ll actually see in Gotham, I think it’s safe to assume, given the fact that they’re in an alleyway, that Gordon is approaching the bodies of Thomas and Martha Wayne, whose murders eventually lead son Bruce to don the iconic cape and cowl. It’s an effective teaser, both in how it conveys the show’s gritty tone and how it plays with DC Comics fans by showcasing the villains.

All signs point to Gotham being a terrific addition to the DC Universe. Hopefully it will be able to catch on with viewers so show creator Bruno Heller will be able to introduce more familiar faces from the Caped Crusader’s illustrious rogues’ gallery as the series progresses.

Gotham arrives September 22nd, on Fox. Will you be watching?
