Come January, Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter is set to make the jump from underused side character to out and out protagonist for Marvel’s Agent Carter, which recently debuted its first clip.
Much like the recently released Ant-Man sneak peek, the studio unveiled the snippet for the TV show late last night — one that outlines the core premise behind Marvel’s sophomore MCU-inspired series after Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
But Agent Carter has been billed as an entirely different beast. Taking place shortly after Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter will follow Peggy’s involvement with Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) and his infamous arsenal of weaponry circa 1946. For those looking to find out more about the plot of the spinoff series, you can head on over to the detailed synopsis.
Fans of Peggy Carter will be pleased to know that there are only a few months left between now and the series’ premiere, and as both Marvel and DC fall over themselves to lay claim to release dates far into the future, a show that centers around a kickass female agent post-World War II could prove to be a welcome tonic. Plus, we can also look forward to a cameo appearance in next-year’s Ant-Man which, we assume, will be in the form of a flashback.
Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Agent Carter when the show hits ABC in January, 2015.
“When old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper, Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger) finds himself being framed for unleashing his deadliest weapons to anyone willing to pony up the cash, he contacts Peggy – the only person he can trust – to track down those responsible, dispose of the weapons and clear his name.”
