CBS has lifted the scarlet curtain on an all-new trailer for the network’s Supergirl series, which sees protagonist Melissa Benoist don the cap and famous symbol of hope as Kara Zor-El.

The denizens of National City aren’t aware of this dual identity, though; to them, our heroine is just a humble 24-year-old assistant called Miss. Danvers. Taken in by a foster family at the age of 13, Kara is only beginning to understand the full extent of her superhuman abilites, and CBS’ adaptation will chart her journey as she learns to mould and control these powers to fight for a better cause.

As Superman’s cousin, hiding in plain sight as a regular citizen becomes much more difficult than Kara first imagined, and it’s this duality – not to mention Benoist’s charm in the lead role – that has us intrigued about the finalized series.

Chyler Leigh and Jeremy Jordan will round out the cast, with special appearances by Helen Slater and Dean Cain. Supergirl will premiere on CBS on October 26. For more on the show, check out our list of characters we’d like to see make an appearance.

Supergirl is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El.

Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.
