New Krypton Trailer And Images Feature Superman’s Cape

Being somebody who watches most DC TV shows these days and a lifelong fan of the Man of Steel, even I must admit that I approached Krypton with some hesitation. After all, we already have Supergirl on the air, so one can only wonder how thinly this property can be spread over television. And with Metropolis now also being on the way, that argument has even more validity.

Still, it’s the devoted and curious fan in me that wants to give Krypton a try, especially when cool-looking promos are now dropping on a regular basis. In fact, what we have for you today further teases the series’ Terminator-esque plot that sees a villain in the present attempting to sever Big Blue’s bloodline in the past.

As you can see in the accompanying video and gallery, Superman’s cape is being clutched by his biological grandpappy, Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe). Not surprisingly, the message that Seg must preserve his legacy is made evermore powerful by the inclusion of a more classic-looking cape that actually has the S-shield on it. It hasn’t always been part of the cape in recent decades, sure, but going about it this way makes the imagery more effective than just a simple red piece of fabric.

Also of note are a variety of other promo shots and character portraits featuring more key members of the cast such as Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos), Lyta-Zod (Georgina Campbell), Val-El (Ian McElhinney) and Nyssa-Vex (Wallis Day), among others. And is it just me, or does Lyta-Zod’s uniform look like something a Red Lantern would wear? I mean, I know it isn’t, but I did have to do a double take.

Krypton premieres on Wednesday, March 21 on SyFy.
