Ever since he was introduced into the Arrowverse back in 2015, fans have been crying out for Matt Ryan to reprise his role as John Constantine again. At last, their prayers have been answered as DC’s foremost occult detective is joining Legends of Tomorrow when it returns from its midseason break.

In the final moments of yesterday’s midseason finale, “Beebo the God of War,” Sara Lance found Constantine stowed away on the Waverider, their first meeting since he saved her soul after she was resurrected in the Lazarus Pit back in Arrow season 4. Apparently, he needs help with a strange exorcism case – a demon is possessing a little girl and it somehow knows Sara’s name…

Following on from that shock appearance, the promo for the midseason premiere, titled “Daddy Darhkest,” teases how the “skinny Brit in a trenchcoat” – as Mick calls him – will fit in with the Waverider crew as they embark on their creepy next mission. From the looks of things, the episode is going to feel like a callback to NBC’s short-lived but cult favourite Constantine TV show, just with a Legends-y twist.

It’s sure to be a treat for longtime fans of the Hellblazer, as we know that the episode will restore a couple of key factors of his character that were controversially removed from the NBC show. As a sneak peak last month revealed, Constantine will resume his serial smoking habits from the comics. Likewise, producer Phil Klemmer has hinted that his bisexuality will be explored for the first time in live-action.

As you can probably guess from the title, “Daddy Darhkest” will also feature Neal McDonough again returning as Damien Darhk. Klemmer has described the episode as “The Exorcist meets One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Demonic possession in a mental institution, what’s not to love?”

Make sure to catch John Constantine’s proper debut on Legends of Tomorrow when the Waverider returns to our screens sometime in February 2018.
