After already filling the role of Roger “I’m getting too old for this shit” Murtaugh in its Lethal Weapon TV reboot, Fox has finally settled on the actor to play Sergeant Riggs, the maverick cop made famous by Mel Gibson across the late 80s and early 90s.

That casting search has led the studio to Clayne Crawford, best known for his part in Rectify. He joins a tight-knit crew that already boasts Damon Wayans Sr. in the role of Roger Murtaugh, a world-weary and frankly grumpy detective who reluctantly agrees to work with Crawford’s Riggs. Fast and Furious stalwart Jordana Brewster will play Dr. Maureen “Mo” Cahill.

As one of the early pioneers of the buddy cop formula, Lethal Weapon is in many ways considered a cult classic in film circles, and it’ll be interesting to see how McG (Supernatural, Nikita) helms the planned pilot episode. Matt Miller is behind the screenplay.

On paper, Fox’s reboot is described as such:

“When Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans Sr.), who, having recently suffered a ‘minor’ heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life. Wayans will take over the role of Roger. Gibson’s role has not yet been cast.”

Proving they’re not too old for this shit after all, Damon Wayans Sr. and now Clayne Crawford will headline Fox’s Lethal Weapon TV reboot later in 2016.
