Starz’ Evil Dead sequel series Ash Vs. Evil Dead will reunite more than just the dunderheaded Ash with his Deadite friends. Today, TV Line reports that Xena alum Lucy Lawless has now boarded the gory comedy serial.

A follow-up to the hugely successful movie franchise, Ash Vs. Evil Dead picks up with the grooviest guy in all of horrordom, Bruce Campbell, who reprises his role as series stalwart Ash, a “stock boy/aging lothario/chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. But when a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is forced to face his demons, personal and literal.”

Lawless previously starred alongside Bruce Campbell in Xena: Warrior Princess, the Starz show that was produced by Evil Dead creators Sam Raimi and Bob Tapert, who are once again at the helm of Ash’s latest batch of adventures. For her role, Lawless will play “Ruby, a mysterious figure who is myopic in her quest to hunt down the source of the recent Evil outbreaks. The only problem? She believes that Ash is the cause of it all.”

From what we know so far, Ruby won’t be alone in that assessment. Previously-announced cast member Jill Marie Jones (American Horror Story) will harbor that same misguided sense of dread as State Trooper Amanda Fisher, who believes Ash is responsible for a spate of Deadite killings.

However, Ash won’t have to fend off this imminent wave of pitchfork-bearers alone. Set to accompany him as he battles the Deadites and clears his name are Ray Santiago and Dana DeLorenzo – aka Ash’s new sidekicks: Pablo Simon Bolivar and Kelly.

Raimi is poised to direct the first of ten half-hour episodes which he co-wrote with Ivan Raimi (Darkman, Army of Darkness), Craig DiGregorio (Workaholics) and Tom Spezialy (Reaper).

Ash Vs. Evil Dead will lens this spring in New Zealand ahead of its expected fall 2015 release date.
