Production rumbles on for the third arm in Marvel’s Defenders universe today. Mike Colter’s Luke Cage may have already made himself familiar to the broader TV audience and the occupants of Hell’s Kitchen thanks to Jessica Jones – shouting ‘sweet Christmas!’ in the process – but 2016 will welcome the ex-con’s own series onto Netflix, and ComingSoon brings forth a series of new photos from the New York set.
Among them, you’ll find a glimpse of Rosaria Dawson’s Claire Temple, who is no stranger to the darker alleys of Hell’s Kitchen, along with Frank Whaley as Detective Scarfe.
[zerg]Situated on the streets of Harlem in the Big Apple, Luke Cage‘s maiden season will explore more of the ex-con’s storied history as Marvel’s small-screen universe begins to fall into place. Perhaps the thing that makes Daredevil and Jessica Jones so entertaining in their own merit is the fact both shows feel decidedly different from one another – and are much better of for it.
That’s a trait we hope continues into Colter’s standalone series, with a handful of cameo appearances thrown in for good measure. In terms of the show’s core cast, Marvel has confirmed Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Frank Whaley as Rafael Scarfe, Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth, Theo Rossi as Shades and Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard.
With Cheo Hodari Coker taking point as showrunner and an ensemble cast that recently welcomed Sonia Braga (Kiss Of The Spider Woman), Luke Cage is barreling down on its launch date, and we can expect Colter’s musclebound ex-con to debut via Netflix in early 2016.
After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city–forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.
