EW is reporting today that Megan Fox will be coming in to replace Zooey Deschanel on the fifth season of the hit comedy series, New Girl. The latter actress will be going on maternity leave but will be returning at some point, meaning that Fox’s role will only be temporary.

According to the report, Jess’ absence on the show will be explained by the fact that she’s on jury duty, which means that Nick, Schmidt and Winston need to rent out her room in the apartment. And, guess who they find to take her spot? Fox’s character, Reagan, who’s described as a “gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep who comes to town on business and shakes things up in the loft.”

Executive producer Liz Meriwether had the following to say about the casting:

“It’s insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it. I’ve been a fan of her comedic skills since This is 40, and I’m so excited to have her on the show.  We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part – she’s the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up.”

While Deschanel’s absence will certainly be felt, there’s enough talent on the show that things should be able to run smoothly without her. And while Fox isn’t exactly a great actress, she should fit in just fine for her short stint and if nothing else, will provide for some fresh, new material for the show to work with.

Tell us, are you happy to hear that Megan Fox will have a role in the new season of New Girl, or would you rather someone else replace Deschanel? Sound off below!
