NBC Orders DC Comics Workplace Comedy Powerless

There are a lot of very different types of small screen comic book adaptations out there right now, but Powerless sounds like perhaps the most unique one to date. Set in the DC Universe, it's basically The Office with superheroes, and NBC has today confirmed that they're ordered a pilot for the comedy which will presumably debut this Fall if things go well.

There are a lot of very different types of small screen comic book adaptations out there right now, but Powerless sounds like perhaps the most unique one to date. Set in the DC Universe, it’s basically The Office with superheroes, and NBC has today confirmed that they’re ordered a pilot for the comedy which will presumably debut this Fall if things go well.

Cars 2 scribe Ben Queen is writing the project, which the official description promises is set in a world, “full of superheroes, villains and people just like us.” It adds that Powerless is going to be, “an office comedy about the exceedingly average employees at an insurance company and their quest to find their own power.”

While we’ll no doubt get cameo appearances from some lesser know DC Comics superheroes, it would be crazy if this series isn’t full of references to big names like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. It would be easy enough to have them exist in this world without there being too much of an impact on the movies, too, as there’s no real need for them to make physical appearances; Powerless just acknowledging their existence would be enough.

There are obviously a ton of superhero TV shows on the air right now, but this one should definitely be a breath of fresh air and we can’t wait to see how it shapes up.
