Ahead of tonight’s brand new episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., “Wake Up,” ABC has released a batch of promotional images and the synopsis for next week’s installment, which carries the unusual title of “Hot Potato Soup.” Though his highly anticipated comeback was expected, the pics give us our first look at Patton Oswalt as one of the returning Koenig…. brothers?
When we were first introduced to Oswalt on the show a few years back, he was playing the lanyard-obsessed Agent Eric Koenig. However, when the character was murdered by Grant Ward, it was revealed that Eric (seemingly) had two identical twin brothers named Billy and Sam, who both behaved in a suspiciously similar manner to their late sibling. This led to speculation that they may actually be clones, and the fact that they’re now returning in the midst of this current story arc makes it that much more likely that they’re actually some kind of Life Model Decoys.
The following synopsis also backs this theory up, as it seems the Koenigs have some kind of connection to the Darkhold:
Hot Potato Soup” – Agents Sam and Billy Koenig (Patton Oswalt) are hunted down to get at the Darkhold book, and only Coulson and the team can save them before the clock ticks out, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” TUESDAY, JANUARY 31 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network.
The rest of the images offer an intriguing tease of what to expect from the burgeoning relationship between Coulson and LMD May, with one of the stills even hinting that the android is going to pull a gun on the sure-to-be very confused former Director.
