“For once, time is the Time Lord’s enemy.” The official synopsis for Doctor Who‘s two-part finale – one that begins with the premiere of “World Enough and Time” on June 24th – has found its way online, and it tees up a gripping conclusion to Peter Capaldi’s tenure as the twelfth Doctor.

First spotted by Digital Spy, the penultimate episode of Doctor Who’s tenth series will seemingly find the good Doctor trapped aboard a giant spacecraft, where he bears witness to the death of someone “he is pledged to protect.” We always knew the stakes would be raised in the build-up to July’s season finale, but toss in the outgoing Capaldi and it’s small wonder why fans are beside themselves with a nervy excitement.

Indeed, if online rumors are to be believed, the BBC has already located its thirteenth Doctor Who, which isn’t exactly outside the realm of possibility. After all, Rachel Talalay and Steven Moffat – the latter of whom is stepping down as head writer after the debut of “The Doctor Falls” on July 1st – have likely woven Thirteen’s reveal into the twelfth and final episode of series 10.

For more on the season finale, you can check out that aforementioned plot synopsis down below:

Friendship drives the Doctor into the rashest decision of his life. Trapped on a giant spaceship, caught in the event horizon of a black hole, he witnesses the death of someone he is pledged to protect. Is there any way he can redeem his mistake? Are events already out of control? For once, time is the Time Lord’s enemy.

Doctor Who returns to the airwaves on Saturday, June 17th with “The Eaters of Light” before things wrap up with the premiere of “The Doctor Falls” on July 1st. Rachel Talalay will direct both installments in the impending two-part finale, and by that point, we’ll surely know the identity of the next Doctor.

Until then, though, feel free to take to the comments section down below and let us know who you’d like to see step into the role once Capaldi departs.
