Prepare For Gotham Season 2 Premiere With Official Plot Synopsis; New Clip Features Joker

Though it was by no means perfect, Fox’s debut season of Gotham planted the roots of an origin story, focusing less on The Caped Crusader and more on Detective James Gordon’s unyielding fight for justice in the grimy DC city. Perhaps more so than its predecessor, season 2 of Fox’s live-action series will only up the ante for Ben McKenzie’s world-weary detective, and the official plot synopsis for September’s premiere only drives that point home.

We’ve long heard that Gotham‘s sophomore outing would bring about the Rise of the Villains – spearheaded by Robin Lord Taylor’s Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin – and its opening episode, titled ‘Damned if you do…’ will put Jim Gordon’s moral to the test.

Earlier this week, Fox debuted a whole host of images spotlighting the show’s leading baddies, with everyone from would-be-Catwoman Selina Kyle (Camren Bicondova) and Tabitha Galavan/Tigress (Jessica Lucas) getting in on the action. As for that official logline for season 2’s premiere, you can feast your eyes on it in full below.

“Penguin is King of Gotham and after a shakeup at the GCPD, Detective James Gordon’s moral compass wavers, as he seeks help from Penguin. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne continues to explore the secrets from his father’s office, while GOTHAM newcomers Theo Galavan (James Frain) and his sister, Tabitha (Jessica Lucas), make friends with some unlikely allies, a group of dangerous inmates from Arkham in the all-new ‘Rise of the Villains: Damned If You Do…”

Don’t be fooled into thinking that Gotham season 2 will focus exclusively on villains; Fox has continually teased that David Mazouz’s young Bruce Wayne will stumble upon a underground lair deep beneath Wayne Manor. While the network isn’t calling out the Batcave just yet, it’s clear that this defining discovery will go on to become Batman’s subterranean base of operations.

Gotham returns for its anticipated season 2 when Fox’s live-action adaptation returns to the airwaves on Monday, September 21, at 8:00 P.M. Are you ready for the Rise of the Villains?
