With AMC’s companion tale Fear The Walking Dead now beginning to find its feet, the network has released a new banner for its flagship undead series ahead of The Walking Dead season 6.

Featuring series protagonist and all-round badass Rick Grimes, the image is a moody shot of our hero (anti-hero?) ahead of the new season’s premiere next month. Indeed there’s much to be excited about for The Walking Dead‘s return to the small screen, with series stalwart Melissa McBride – reprising her role as fan-favorite Carol – even going so far as to say that the show’s latest outing is the most intense to date. Last month, the actress claimed that “there’s a lot of things going on in different story arcs and different characters coming in that are really pitting the characters against their own selves as far as, you know, where they stand.”

Leading his ragtag band of survivors once more, Rick and Co. are in for another helping of post-apocalyptic drama, and every shred of marketing material released thus far driving home the fact that, yes, things will only get worse before they get better – if they ever will get better, that is.

While Fear the Walking Dead explores the early stages of the zombie outbreak on the west coast, AMC’s flagship will bring the flesh-munching action back to rural Georgia in October, with a 90-minute premiere episode that is said to feature a staggering 650 walkers. Alongside Andrew Lincoln and McBride are Chandler Riggs as Carl, Danai Gurira as Michonne, Sonequa Martin-Green as Sasha, Lauren Cohan as Maggie, Steven Yeun as Glenn and Norman Reedus as Daryl.

The Walking Dead will return for a sixth season on Sunday, October 11th at 9 p.m.
