Rip Hunter Won’t Appear In Legends Of Tomorrow Season 4

Now that a trailer for the fourth season of Legends of Tomorrow has been officially released, it truly feels like the Waverider crew's return is just around the corner - even if we do have three months to go until showtime. Still, there's bound to be much exciting news with which to fill the gap in that timespan.

As was to be expected, the next chapter in the saga will be a time of change, as none other than John Constantine will heavily factor into what’s to come. To the chagrin of some though, a few of the bunks aboard the ship will be vacated, what with Kid Flash also poised to exit, but let’s not forget about Rip Hunter’s death that was witnessed near the end of season 3.

Of course, with this being being a time traveling series and all, one would expect for Rip to return in a fashion similar to that of Captain Cold. Offering a reality check of sorts, however, is showrunner Phil Klemmer, who had this to say in a recent discussion with Digital Spy at San Diego Comic-Con:

“I believe he’s done, for this season. But, I mean, Arthur Darvill is the greatest. We’ve got a terrible habit of killing the greatest people. It’s totally stupid.”

If we’re to argue semantics, a return – no matter how brief – could happen in a potential fifth season, but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. In a way, this particular Arrowverse series is similar to Supernatural insofar that it’s hard for anyone to truly stay dead.

Call me crazy, but I prefer seeing Sara Lance calling the shots, and the team operating without the safety net that was the experienced Rip Hunter. Some may see it differently, but I’ve come to like the show even more in his absence.

Legends of Tomorrow returns for its fourth season on Monday, October 22 on The CW.
