Rosario Dawson Won’t Be In The Punisher

Marvel has seen huge success with their Netflix shows. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and even Iron Fist (though to a lesser extent) have all been winners for the studio, spawning a small screen universe for their heroes to play around in. Later this year, the gang will finally all meet up for The Defenders, which is going to bring together just about every character we've encountered on these shows thus far.

Marvel has seen huge success with their Netflix shows. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and even Iron Fist (though to a lesser extent) have all been winners for the studio, spawning a small screen universe for their heroes to play around in. Later this year, the gang will finally all meet up for The Defenders, which is going to bring together just about every character we’ve encountered on these shows thus far.

Looking further ahead though, there’s another Marvel/Netflix production coming our way this year and it won’t have anything to do with those aforementioned superheroes. Instead, it’ll revolve around one Frank Castle. Yes, as we all know by now, Jon Bernthal made such an impact on fans as the Punisher when he debuted in season 2 of Daredevil that he’s now getting his own spinoff, and it just recently wrapped in New York City.

Marvel’s been keeping pretty quiet about the show so far and to date, we really haven’t seen too much from it. We do know that a few familiar faces will be popping up though, like Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page. One character who we won’t be seeing, however, is Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple. Despite appearing in every one of the Marvel/Netflix series so far – she’s set to have a role in The Defenders as well – it looks like the actress will be sitting out of The Punisher.

Speaking to Collider to promote her new film Unforgettable, Dawson confirmed as much, saying that she was too busy to make a cameo:

“People are busy! There are so many times where I really want it to happen. I really wanted to do a cameo on The Punisher, but it doesn’t always work that way.”

Though it’s disappointing to hear that the actress won’t be showing her face in the upcoming series, as she really is one of the best parts of Marvel’s small screen universe, it’s probably for the best. Some of her appearances have felt a bit shoehorned in and that’d probably end up being the case if they put her in The Punisher. It’s better that the studio saves Claire for The Defenders, where she’ll be a much more natural fit as she already has a lot of history with many of the characters set to feature there.
