Not long after portraying Marvel’s Doctor Strange on the silver screen, British star Benedict Cumberbatch is about to circle back to what is arguably the one role that helped put him on the map all those years ago. We are, of course, referring to the title role in Sherlock, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat’s modern-day spin on the famed sleuth.

Season 4 is now just days away – look for “The Six Thatchers” to premiere on January 1, 2017 – and to commemorate the occasion, YouTuber TheGaroStudios has produced a rather handy Sherlock supercut that crams in all of the key story beats from all three seasons. There’s a particular focus on the relationship between Cumberbatch’s prickly lead and John Watson, the fiercely loyal detective played by Martin Freeman, and the end result is a poignant, but no less exciting primer for Sherlock season 4.

Besides, given the extensive breaks between each season, you’d be forgiven if your memory of Sherlock‘s core story is a little hazy. Rest assured, the sizzle reel above ought to get the neurons firing – and then some – as it chronicles many of the show’s defining moment, whether it’s John and Mary’s wedding or the particularly fiery sense of rivalry between Holmes and Moriarty (AKA the Napoleon of crime), the latter of which is played by Andrew Scott.

Sherlock season 4 will begin with “The Six Thatchers” on January 1, 2017, and though there has been chatter that Gatiss and Moffat’s beloved series is fast approaching its conclusion, the former recently suggested that all involved are “very keen” to continue the hit show for the foreseeable future.
