March 17th has been a day long anticipated by Marvelites the world over, as it heralds the arrival of the fourth and final Defender: Danny Rand (AKA Iron Fist).
And though the first wave of admittedly divisive reviews has quelled excitement for the show’s premiere later this week, Marvel and Netflix are gearing up for one final marketing push, starting today with a striking, sun-kissed poster of Rand (Finn Jones) walking the streets of New York City, courtesy of IGN.
He’s not alone, either; if you peer close enough, you’ll find many of the primary supporting players – namely Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), Joy Meachum (Jessica Stroup), Ward Meachum (Tom Pelphrey) and Harold Meachum (David Denham) – looming in the background. Further afield, the re-modeled Avengers Tower casts a shadow over the Big Apple, which should really be totally vacant, providing Iron Fist stays true to MCU continuity. Let’s not forget that by the end of Age of Ultron, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes had relocated to a New Avengers Facility up north – the same one glimpsed in Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man solo movie – though there’s always the possibility that Marvel’s upcoming series takes place at a slightly different place in the timeline.
All 13 episodes of Iron Fist are expected to drop via Netflix on March 17th. In his review, WGTC critic Robert Yaniz Jr. found the Danny Rand solo series to be good, if not great, writing “Marvel fanatics will relish another addition to the growing Netflix canon but should be forewarned of the diminishing returns inherent in the fun but subpar Iron Fist.”
