This disjointed team may not ultimately be enough to defeat an entire pack of Alphas, but they have an uncanny ability for figuring things out. The sporadic, helpful tidbit from Peter definitely saved the day this time around. If they hadn’t realized the effect of the vault material on the moon, then the lack of advance warning might have been enough for the two captives to defeat Scott and Derek. Although, it didn’t hurt that Allison was conveniently hiding in broom closet at the same time they might need a human to run interference.
In fact, Ms. Morell (Bianca Lawson) playing both sides like that was pretty intriguing. How did she get signed up for werewolf duty in the first place, and what did the head of the Alpha-pack mean when he said it wasn’t the first time? She obviously planted Allison in the closet to break the seal keeping all the werewolves trapped in the vault-o’-not-so-much-fun, but why put herself in this position in the first place? Out of all the characters on Teen Wolf, She’s always served the most vague purpose, but it looks like she’ll be more active this season. Perhaps we’ll finally get a look at the bigger picture and how she, and Dr. Deaton (Seth Gilliam), fit into it.
Speaking of Dr. Deaton – way to come through in the clutch! The entire premise of the episode was to save Erica and Boyd, and although it looks like Erica had already been taken out of the equation, the team was running out of time. In order to save them (er, him?) they needed to tap into Isaac’s memories from when he found them himself before a series of unfortunate events blurred them right up. Even Peter couldn’t get what they needed out of his mind, and he was hooked up to it like a laptop to a television set. Dr. Deaton worked his unconventional mojo on him, with the help of an uncomfortable looking ice bath, and out spilled the information they needed. Of course, if they had listened to Allison’s instinct in the first place, it would have saved Isaac from a near death experience.
All the same, the team – despite their disproportionate motives – saved the day, or at least freed Boyd and didn’t get massacred in the process. It’s too bad that Erica didn’t survive the ordeal, but it does make room for another rogue werewolf to join Derek’s pack. His own little sister, Kora (Adelaide Kane), who he thought was dead, mysteriously ended up taking Erica’s place in the vault and was poetically placed their to kill her brother. That was quite a family reunion.
