The Punisher’s Jon Bernthal Wants To See Frank Go Up Against Barracuda And Kingpin

While appearing at Skybound's recent Walker Stalker Cruise, The Punisher's Jon Bernthal name-dropped Barracuda and Kingpin as potential villains.

Frank Castle has no shortage of enemies.

Between his time serving in the U.S. Marines and cleaning up the streets of New York City, Jon Bernthal’s one-man army has butchered some of the most dangerous men and women on the planet and lived to tell the tale. But if the actor was handed control of The Punisher season 2, he’d like to see Frank Castle go up against Barracuda and/or Kingpin in a future installment.

Jigsaw is ostensibly a lock for the show’s second outing, given how things ended for Billy Russo, but while appearing on the 2018 Walker Stalker Cruise alongside Robert Kirkman and some of TWD‘s biggest names, Jon Bernthal fielded all sorts of questions from fans – including one about The Punisher‘s potential villains.

Barracuda. I’d like to see Barracuda. I’d really like to get back in with [Vincent] D’Onofrio, with Kingpin. I mean, there’s so many twisted characters. But you know, I’m really eager to see… ah, sh*t, I’m gonna get in trouble. Let’s just see what happens, man. Let’s just see what happens.

Wilson Fisk is a favorite among Marvel fans, having put Matt Murdock through his paces throughout Daredevil season 1. The show’s second season also allowed to Fisk and Frank Castle to cross paths – in prison, of all places – so there’s precedent for Vincent D’Onofrio crossing over into The Punisher‘s underworld.

On the casting front, Marvel is reportedly searching for three new additions for The Punisher season 2: Annie Beir, Kim Davis, and Melvin Skelling. And though each name is likely a pseudonym to be used during auditions, That Hashtag Show’s recent character breakdowns strongly suggest that The Punisher plans to adapt “The Slavers,” Garth Ennis’ hardboiled comic from 2005, for its second season.

Either way, season 2 of The Punisher will once again use New York as its home base, with production due to commence later this year. That places Frank Castle’s sophomore outing on track for a premiere in 2019 – long after Marvel and Netflix roll out new installments of Jessica Jones (March 8th, 2018), Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Still no word on a second season of The Defenders, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on Marvel’s TV slate as time wears on.
