Tina Fey & Amy Poehler To Host Golden Globes Through 2015

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who delighted audiences as Golden Globes hosts in January 2013, have closed a deal with NBC and Dick Clark Productions to return to host the ceremony in 2014 and 2015. The 30 Rock creator and Parks and Recreation star (and former Weekend Update co-anchors on Saturday Night Live) turned out to be exactly what audiences were looking for. Their fresh comedy did not rely on crude jokes and gags (here's looking at you, Ricky Gervais and Seth MacFarlane) and their dynamic chemistry helped them play off of each other comfortably (unlike Anne Hathaway and James Franco).

Their return to the hosting job is a bit of a surprise, since the comediennes had agreed to host the 2013 ceremony as a one-time thing. Nevertheless, rave reviews (a rarity for awards show hosts) and high ratings, which drew close to 20 million viewers, a 17 per cent uptick from the previous telecast (and up 28 per cent in the coveted 18-to-49 demographic), made them the natural hosting choice. Fey and Poehler even stole much of Neil Patrick Harris’s thunder when he hosted the Emmys last month, with a sly bit during his opening monologue.

“Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC’s prexy of alternative programming. “We’re elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years.”

The 71st annual Golden Globes awards will air on January 12, 2014, just in time for the actors to have all of their Gravity and 12 Years a Slave jokes prepped.
