TNT Renews The Last Ship, Falling Skies And Major Crimes

The strangely elegant simplicity of TNT's latest slogan, "Boom," is evidently working out quite well for the network. Its summer dramas The Last Ship, Falling Skies and Major Crimes are all ratings successes, ranking among basic cable's top five shows of the summer among total viewers and the older adults 25-54 demographic, and with all three shows soaring, TNT has become the number one cable network in primetime this summer. So, it doesn't come as much of a surprise that the network has opted to pick the shows up for additional seasons.

The strangely elegant simplicity of TNT’s latest slogan, “Boom,” is evidently working out quite well for the network. Its summer dramas The Last Ship, Falling Skies and Major Crimes are all ratings successes, ranking among basic cable’s top five shows of the summer among total viewers and the older adults 25-54 demographic, and with all three shows soaring, TNT has become the number one cable network in primetime this summer. So, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the network has opted to pick the shows up for additional seasons.

The Last Ship, from Michael Bay, centers on the crew of a naval destroyer grappling to come to terms with a transformed world after a global pandemic wipes out most of the human population. It’s currently in the midst of its 10-episode first season, which has been hugely successful, standing as the highest rated scripted series this summer in the key adults 18-49 and 25-54 demographics. TNT is upping the episode count for the second season by ordering 13 episodes.

Meanwhile, Falling Skies, a sci-fi action-drama executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, about human resistance fighters combatting an alien invasion, has been renewed for a 10-episode fifth and final season.

Finally, Major Crimes, currently in its 10-episode third season, has been upped to 15 episodes for its fourth season. Like The Last Ship and Falling Skies, it has maintained strong ratings and proven popular among the key adults 18-49 and 25-54 demographics.

Announcing the pick-ups, TNT head of programming Michael Wright stated:

“TNT’s refreshed and recharged drama brand is soaring this summer, and that is due in large part to these three enormously popular dramas. The Last Ship has become this summer’s top drama among key adult demos with its epic scale and visceral storytelling. Major Crimes continues to be one of the most enduring and popular crime-drama franchises on television. And Falling Skies has begun an ambitious and thrilling story arc this summer as it sets the stage for next year’s climactic final season.”
