Monk creator Andy Breckman has revealed that after almost three years of being off the air, Monk is returning to TV!

Tony Shalhoub will return as the obsessive compulsive title character, Adrian Monk, for a two-hour made-for-TV movie set to air sometime later this year. Breckman told MY9TV.com that he had recently finished writing the script titled Mr. Monk For Mayor, which will revolve around Monk running for Mayor of San Francisco.

USA Network has yet to confirm this long awaited return but Breckman announced that filming would begin this summer and expects the film to air in December. If successful, meaning the ratings are high, Breckman is ready and willing to pen a sequel.

Three years ago the show went off the air, not because of low ratings, but because Breckman’s story lines dried up – he felt that the entire story had been told. Obviously this wasn’t the case though since here we are waiting to bask in Monk’s comedic and dramatic glory once again.

It looks like all the original cast members are on board for the return and fans that stuck with the series for over 8 years will now get some resolution to all their unanswered questions.
