Vanessa Kirby Says The Queen Is A Fan Of The Crown

Netflix's The Crown is without a doubt a very popular title for the streaming service. Set against the backdrop of some of the most significant events of the latter half of the 20th century, the show revolves around Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) and Prince Philip, the Duke Of Edinburgh (Matt Smith) – and all the romance and political machinations that swirl around them.

The Royal family drama was a hit when the first season premiered back in November 2016, with the intelligent writing and outstanding performances from the leads being praised for humanizing Queen Elizabeth II and her family. Thankfully, that continued into the sophomore run as well, with WGTC’s own Joseph Falcone rating it quite well in his review, too, describing it as “scandalous, seductive and stately” and promising that “it will have viewers begging for a third helping.”

As such, it’s no surprise that even the Royal Family themselves watch it. And not only that, but it seems that they enjoy it quite a bit, too. Or at least, Queen Elizabeth herself does.

That’s according to Vanessa Kirby, who plays Princess Margaret and told The Guardian that her friend ran into Princess Beatrice, Elizabeth’s granddaughter, at a party and the show came up in conversation. Apparently, Beatrice told Kirby’s friend that her “granny” watches The Crown and likes it.

Just like with the fact that the Royal Family tunes in for the acclaimed series, it’s not surprising to hear that they also enjoy it. After all, this is one of the most beloved and celebrated shows on the air at the moment, with critics showering praise on each new season and The Crown finding itself with more and more awards under its belt as time goes by.

Thankfully, the Queen and her family have lots to look forward to as well, as production on season 3 just started this month and marks the planned halfway point, as the renewed cast is expected to last for this season and the next before the series moves on to Elizabeth’s autumn years, meaning a recast will be necessitated once again.

As for when we can expect it to hit the streaming service, well, Netflix hasn’t set a date for The Crown season 3 just yet, but once they do we’ll be sure to let you know.
