First Look At Wentworth Miller As The Flash’s Captain Cold

Of all the Rogues slated to appear on The Flash this season, Captain Cold - played by Prison Break alum Wentworth Miller - is one of the most anticipated. He's long been a fan-favorite Flash villain in the comics, and as the leader of the Rogues he comes with some pretty enticing promises for what's to come on the new show. DC Chief Creative Officer and Flash producer Geoff Johns released our very first official images of Wentworth as Captain Cold, and he looks ready to do some serious damage to the scarlet speedster (insert requisite ice puns here).

Of all the Rogues slated to appear on The Flash this season, Captain Cold – played by Prison Break alum Wentworth Miller – is one of the most anticipated. He’s long been a fan-favorite Flash villain in the comics, and as the leader of the Rogues he comes with some pretty enticing promises for what’s to come on the new show.

Today, DC Chief Creative Officer and Flash producer Geoff Johns released the very first official images of Wentworth as Captain Cold, and he looks ready to do some serious damage to the scarlet speedster (insert requisite ice puns here).

In a recent interview with MTV, Johns discussed Captain Cold’s role on the show and how he’ll be brought from page to screen. While we originally assumed that he’d mirror his New 52 interpretation and be one of the “metahumans” created by the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator explosion, he’ll actually be one of the few villains without superpowers. While that would seem to put him at a disadvantage against the Flash, Johns hints that the Captain won’t come to their fight unprepared:

“He kind of just is this guy who pulls jobs very carefully, and suddenly there’s something else in the city and he has to change his game up. He has to figure out how to deal with his new threat in Central City – [this threat] to him and his way of life. And so, it’s all about him evolving and surviving in the new world order, and with that guns aren’t going to do it, so he has to have something a little stronger.”

By stronger, Johns is of course referring to the big freeze ray Miller is holding in the photos. From the new pics we can also assume that the character is getting a more “realistic” and “grounded” makeover for the series. Gone are his white and blue fur coat and slitted glasses, replaced instead by a simple parka and more practical eyewear.

The Flash premieres tonight on the CW at 8pm. From there, it will air on Tuesday nights. Miller will first appear in episode four, the Arrow/Flash crossover titled “The Brave and the Bold.”
