Kid-Flash

Don’t Worry, Wally West Will Soon Return To The Flash

Even though our common sense should be taking over, we're not afraid to admit that we, like many of you, expressed concern when Wally West recently left town on The Flash. Basically, he didn't take Jesse Quick's decision to break up with him so well, and has since decided to do a bit of soul searching. Logically, there shouldn't be much reason to fret, but it's hard not to recall Colton Haynes leaving Arrow not long after he was promoted to being Arsenal, a situation to which parallels can be drawn.

Fortunately, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg helped alleviate fears when he told TV Line that “Keiynan’s [Lonsdale] a regular, and we will see him again.” In fact, his return will come as soon as the episode set to air November 21, which, as it turns out, just so happens to be the week before the big fall crossover, “Crisis on Earth-X.” Thus, we fully expect Kid Flash to be ready for battle.

One possibility for Wally’s brief absence may be due to budgetary reasons. After all, this week’s episode saw the introduction of one Ralph Dibny, and those elongated effects probably cost a pretty penny.

Kreisberg continued on by saying:

“It’s difficult having two speedsters on the show, just creatively and financially. There are a lot of times where either Barry had to get knocked out so Wally could save the day, or Wally had to get knocked out so Barry could save the day — and just knocking them out, that costs a lot.

“But Wally is not gone. Wally is not gone, certainly, from the Arrowverse, and he’ll be back on Flash, and more exciting stuff about Wally will be revealed as we move forward.”

After taking in that last part, we can’t help but analyze the EP’s words. As you may recall, Wally made a surprise appearance on Legends of Tomorrow‘s season premiere a few weeks back, and there’s also the reality of Victor Garber leaving that particular series with which to deal. With Barry Allen holding down the fort in Central City, one has to wonder if Wally will soon fill the void left by Martin Stein on the sister show.

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
