It’s a far cry from the multi-faceted and quite frankly unnerving role of Heisenberg, but come July, Bryan Cranston will be returning to the world of crime for Brad Furman’s narcotics thriller, The Infiltrator.
As the title suggests, Cranston will assume the role of Robert “Bob” Mazur, a decorated agent who agrees to go undercover in a bid to topple Pablo Escobar’s infamous drug trafficking empire circa 1986, nailing the “biggest bust in US history” in the process.
It’s a mission that has our grizzled protagonist lead a double life as a slick, money-laundering businessman, who teams with John Leguizamo’s street wise agent as they risk life and limb to get a foothold in Escobar’s criminal underworld.
Based loosely on the true story, the rat-a-tat pace of today’s new trailer coupled with the cracking chemistry between Cranston and Leguizamo has us quietly confident that The Infiltrator will fare well during the summer blockbuster season. Aiding that cause is the movie’s ensemble cast, one rounded out by Benjamin Bratt, Diane Kruger, John Leguizamo, Yul Vazquez and Amy Ryan.

Based on a true story, Federal agent ROBERT “BOB” MAZUR (Bryan Cranston) goes deep undercover to infiltrate Pablo Escobar’s drug trafficking scene plaguing the nation in 1986 by posing as slick, money-laundering businessman Bob Musella. Teamed with impulsive and streetwise fellow agent EMIR ABREU (John Leguizamo) and rookie agent posing as his fiancé KATHY ERTZ (Diane Kruger), Mazur befriends Escobar’s top lieutenant ROBERTO ALCAINO (Benjamin Bratt). Navigating a vicious criminal network in which the slightest slip-up could cost him his life, Mazur risks it all building a case that leads to indictments of 85 drug lords and the corrupt bankers who cleaned their dirty money, along with the collapse of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International, one of the largest money-laundering banks in the world.
