Billy Bob Thornton To Direct Jayne Mansfield’s Car And Talks Of A Possible Bad Santa Sequel

Billy Bob Thornton can certainly be a fine actor as performances in The Man Who Wasn’t There and A Simple Plan have proven. His directorial career is not so hot. I never really liked Sling Blade and All The Pretty Horses was a very bad film, but now he has a project lined up which could be of interest.

Billy Bob is attached to the project Jayne Mansfield’s Car, the details of which are at the moment vague, but it sounds interesting nonetheless. Reports suggest that it may tell the story of the tragic death of actress Jayne Mansfield who was killed in a car accident. The story passed into legend, it was littered with false reports that Mansfield was decapitated in the crash and it became a significant part of David Cronenberg’s adaptation of Crash.

So what will it be about? The story which led to that event, a conspiracy thriller about her suspicious death or a simple biopic? The list of possibilities is endless and as Thornton suggests, it could be ‘a dandy’.

The actor also discussed a sequel to the hit 2004 comedy Bad Santa:

And there’s been talk of making a sequel to it, which I actually would like to do. I’ve never done a sequel to one of my movies, but that one makes sense to me to do it… [It would probably take] a director who’s got the juice to, with whoever makes it, you know puts up the money to get it in blood. That’s the way you have to do it, and hopefully it’ll work.

That still seems pretty far away however, as it is only an idea. However I can see with this news that fans and the studio would be hot on him to get a sequel out there. As for now, there is nothing set in stone for either project but both from the outside look promising.
