Jodie Foster Cast In Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium

The ball is now truly rolling with regards to Neill Blomkamp's new film Elysium, his new film to follow his excellent feature debut District 9. Jodie Foster is set to join the cast which already includes Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley, in a role that has yet to be named due to the tight hold over any plot details. What we do know is very thin on the ground. It is another sci-fi film and will be very much in the vein of District 9, that it will be a sociopolitical film that is wrapped in a big Hollywood blockbuster action film. Whatever many think of this approach, it worked beautifully with his previous work and was deeply insightful as well as being an engaging action film. The script is an original idea of his and set 150 years in the future.

Media Rights Capital are providing the film’s funding. Elysium will have a larger budget than District 9 so will undoubtedly have a bigger scale to it. It’s unknown as to when the film will begin shooting. Damon’s schedule is so far pretty packed out so it could be the end of this year. We’ll keep you posted on any further details.
