After Disney acquired the rights to all things Marvel in a huge deal last year, and recently there were several rumours that Disney may start up a project for TV. Now this appears to be true as Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro and Battlestar Galactica executive producer David Eick are confirmed to bring the Incredible Hulk to the small screen on ABC.

Eick will most likely oversee the project with its day to day schedule and also be writing a pilot episode, while del Toro also tries to cram some writing/directing responsibilties within his already packed out list of projects. Del Toro is also working closely with the art department to create a Hulk creature. As always with del Toro’s monsters, this new Hulk will be a blend of CGI, puppetry and prosthetics, as opposed to a wholly CGI creation or a wrestler painted in green.

They are also going back to the beginning with it, presumably ignoring all other screen incarnations of the character including Mark Ruffalo’s work on Joss Whedon’s upcoming The Avengers. According to Deadline, the plot will be an origin tale with a much younger, but still just as angry Bruce Banner.

Due to various things still being in the planning stages and due to what could be fierce budget negotiations we aren’t likely to see this until way after 2012. Marvel and ABC are already planning to wait until The Avengers has been released, so any time after May 2012.
