The more I hear about Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us, the harder it is for me to not get excited. The post-apocalyptic romp seems to be doing everything right at this early junction.

Recently, directors Neil Druckmann and Bruce Staley took some time to do a video interview with Game Informer which gives us a bit more to sink our teeth into. The game is set 20 years after an apocalyptic fungal outbreak ravaged society. The sparse amount of our fellow humans who managed to survive, happen to be living under martial law.

Our bearded friend Joel is one of the last survivors from the “old world” and has been surviving by working in the black market smuggling contraband. His humanity has been (understandably) chipped away as he’s been forced to survive in this new world, and his morality has taken the toll. Sticking with the black market, he’s tasked with smuggling a 14 year old girl out of the city. Hardly the sweet paternal roll I had assumed from the first trailer. Being a Naughty Dog game, the plan immediately collapses, but Joel isn’t ready to be the type of guy to abandon a teenager in the wild.

It’s hard not using hyperbole when talking about The Last Of Us, but this is shaping up to be one of the best games of the generation. We’ll keep you posted as we find out more.
