I hope you haven’t been a fan of Metal Gear Online, the multiplayer component of my personal greatest PS3 game Metal Gear Solid 4, because it seems the service will be shut down permanently within the next few months.

MGO will undertake a systematic death until it finally disappears. Starting on March 21, the online shop will close its virtual doors for business. It will be impossible to create new characters by late April. All of the game’s expansion packs and such will be free right up until the day of death. On June 12, 2012, exactly four years since Metal Gear Solid 4 was released in 2008, Metal Gear Online will be silenced for good.

So if you ever wanted to get more into the game, now is the time.

R.I.P. Metal Gear Online. Hopefully if you ever show up again, it won’t take a million steps just to sign up for an account.
