A brand new trailer for Ridley Scott‘s much anticipated Prometheus hit the web yesterday and it gives us a better look at what is sure to be another sci-fi epic from the legendary director.

The new footage reveals a couple more secrets about the film’s plot and also showcases some of the horror that we’re going to be treated to. For fans of Scott’s Alien, you may also notice a couple more connections and links between the two, which makes sense since after all, Prometheus is said to take place in the same universe as Alien.

What I enjoyed most about the trailer is the horror elements that it showed. It truly looks like the film is going to scare, which is a welcome sign seeing as I can’t remember the last time we got a truly scary sci-fi flick. I think Pometheus may change all that though as I was creeped out just from the trailer. I can’t even imagine what Scott has cooked up for the full film.

Starring an all star cast that boasts names like Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who isn’t super excited for the film. Plus, it sees Scott returning to a genre he helped define and that alone would be worth the price of admission.

The director has given us films like Blade Runner as well as Alien, two films that really helped shape the sci-fi genre. To see him tackle it again, and in the same universe as Alien, well, do I really need to say anymore?

The film is set to hit theaters in 3D on June 8th, 2012. Check out the trailer below.

A team of explorers find a clue to the origins of man on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe… There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
