In somewhat odd news, director Danny Boyle has agreed to direct a James Bond film, but not just any James Bond film. The Sun is reporting that Boyle will helm a short film featuring the iconic super spy.
The director is currently working on directing the 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, which the James Bond short film will open. Titled The Arrival, the short film will see Daniel Craig reprising his role as James Bond. From what we know, the “plot” centers on Bond “showing up at Buckingham Palace to receive his next mission: launching the Olympic Games.”
Boyle was granted “unprecedented access into the Queen’s private rooms” for filming and apparently, the short will have an explosive finale, featuring Bond parachuting out of a helicopter and landing in the Olympic stadium.
It sounds interesting and it’s a nice tease for moviegoers while they wait for the next full James Bond film, Skyfall. Skyfall won’t open until November 9th so hopefully The Arrival will tide fans over until 007 makes his way back to the big screen.
Boyle is a fantastic director with a totally unique vision and I’ve always wondered what a Bond film would be like under his hand. Though that likely won’t ever happen, we can always dream and now with this short film, we can also get a peak at what such a film would look like.
While I am excited to see what Boyle does with his take on Bond as well as the Olympic games, I’m more eager to see the director get back to work on feature films. Unfortunately, that won’t be until 2013 though when he releases Trance, starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson, and Vincent Cassel.
