Four big names have joined Relativity Media’s Out Of The Furnace today. The studio has closed deals with Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, Casey Affleck and Sam Shepard.
Written and directed by Scott Cooper (the man who gave us Crazy Heart), the film will have Bale and Affleck playing brothers while Saldana will be Bale’s love interest and Shepard as the brothers’ uncle.
The film is a drama that will explore the themes of fate, circumstance, and redemption. It centers on “Russell and his younger brother who live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast – a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother.”
“This is a meaty script with characters as strong as they are complex, and we needed powerhouse actors who complement the story. Christian, Casey, Zoe and Sam each approach everything they do with heart and conviction. We can’t wait to see what each of them brings to this film,” said Relativity’s Co-President, Tucker Tooley.
I must say, that’s a very impressive cast that Relativity has managed to bring on board. All four of them were rumored for the film but it’s great to hear that everyone is now confirmed.
Personally, I’m very excited for this one. Affleck and Bale starring as brothers, what more can you ask for? I love both of these actors and I can’t wait to see the dynamic/chemistry between them on screen.
From the sounds of it, this is going to be a gritty crime thriller with a strong emotional punch. Just from reading the plot summary, I’m sensing a bit of Pride and Glory meets Gone Baby Gone. Both of those films were excellent and they both told gritty and dark crime stories, which is exactly what I’m hoping to see with Out Of The Furnace.
