After being in beta for quite a while, Tribes Ascend has finally opened up to the public. The free to play first person shooter has been an absolute time sink for some of our staff, and it’s really easy to see why.
Tribes ends up playing closer to Unreal Tournament 2k3 as opposed to most modern day shooters, but offers a unique experience unparalleled by anything else on the market right now. The sci-fi shooter is centered around an incredibly fast-paced capture the flag design integrating projectile explosives, vehicles and jetpacks. Sure, there are arena, deathmatch and king of the hill game modes as well, but CTF is where the speed of Tribes really stands out. Expect to have most of your fighting taking place in midair as players ski across the map at speeds unheard of in modern FPS games.
I’d heavily recommend Tribes Ascend for 20 bucks, but it’s an absolute no-brainer as a free game. You owe it to yourself to download this today.
