Variety is reporting that legendary director John Woo is planning an English language remake of Youth Of The Beast. The film will be re-titled Day of the Beast and it will be produced by Woo and his longtime partner Terence Chang.

Jo Sushido starred in the original Seijun Suzuki film, which centered on a “disgraced former policeman who infiltrates two Yakuka gangs in order to clear his name and that of his boss.” The press release calls it an “action-packed saga of loyalty, revenge and redemption which erupts in the heart of Tokyo.”

I haven’t seen the original but I have heard of it. From what I know, it sounds like a great project for Woo and it will be nice to see him get back to his hard action roots as it’s been a while since he’s given us anything in the style of The Killer or Hard-Boiled.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to figure out where I can find a copy of Youth of the Beast.
