Deadline is reporting that actor James Badge Dale has joined the cast of Iron Man 3 in the role of Eric Savin, a “Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army put in charge of Project: Ultra. After stepping on a land mine, cybernetic surgery is performed on him and he’s resurrected as the cyborg Coldblood.
Dale, who has been showing up a lot lately, will join an excellent cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall.
As I mentioned, Dale is popping up a lot as of late, he did good work with small supporting roles in both Shame and The Grey and before that, he starred in the under-appreciated television show Rubicon. Most people will probably know him from his work on HBO’s The Pacific or FOX’s 24 and though he may not have a high profile film resume just yet, that’s about to change.
Aside from Iron Man 3, Dale will also appear in Robert Zemeckis‘ Flight as well as World War Z, in which he’ll co-star alongside Brad Pitt.
Production on Iron Man 3 will begin later this month.
