Iranian writer/director Asghar Farhadi burst onto the international film scene last year with a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nomination for his excellent movie A Separation. Since then, everyone has been waiting to see what the talented filmmaker would do next. Today, we have our answer.
Marion Cotillard has signed on to star in Farhadi’s next yet to be titled film which will begin filming in Paris this Fall. Little is know about the project but it is being described as an “emotional social thriller in the vein of A Separation,” Farhadi added that he hopes to present viewers “with questions rather than answers.” He went onto say that “perhaps this cinema can be named an inquiring cinema.”
The film is budgeted at €11 million and will be produced by Alexander Mallet-Guy through his company Memento Films. It will likely arrive in 2013.
As for Cotillard, the actress is on a role as of late, having worked with some of the worlds best directors in the last few few years. Now, she can add Farhadi to the list.
Furthermore, as we predicted, she is also current favourite to win best actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her new film Rust and Bone, which just premiered to rave reviews.
