Described as “Kill Bill meets Drive,” Nicolas Cage and Mickey Rourke will star in noir revenge thriller called Marble City, from director Ryuhei Kitamura.
Cage has been in a more of a rut than usual as of late, heading two little-seen VOD releases Seeking Justice and Trespass and the horrendous comic book sequel that was Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Rourke however has been a rather popular property as of late and just signed on to reprise his role of Marv in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
The plot of Marble City is nothing to write home about and is described simply as a revenge story about a newly released prisoner who hunts down the man who put him behind bars. Aside from the interesting casting thus far, Kitamura also disclosed his film will be a “high action and close combat fighting picture,” so we should expect a lot of throw-downs (hopefully between Cage and Rourke at some point).
If you’ve wondering who the hell Kitamura is, he directed 2008’s Midnight Meat Train with Bradley Cooper and Vinnie Jones, which had some interesting ideas and a crisp look, even if it wasn’t ultimately the sum of its parts. Hopefully we can see a polished but equally stylish effort here.
It was also not revealed which of the two would be the blood-lusting vigilante and who will portray the soon-to-be hunted conspirator.
