20th Century Fox has revealed their release schedule for 2013/2014 and with it, we get a whole bunch of new information, which can be seen below.

  • The Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel will be called Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and will be released May 23, 2014.
  • The untitled X-Men: First Class sequel will hit theaters on July 18, 2014.
  • Independence Day has earned a 3D re-release which will be in theaters on July 3, 2013.
  • Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse has been pushed back from a 2013 release to April 25, 2014.
  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which stars and is directed by Ben Stiller will be out for Christmas 2013, along with Walking with Dinosaurs.
  • Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters will be released on August 16, 2013.
  • Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy’s untitled Paul Feig-directed comedy will be out on April 5, 2013.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a surprise critical and commercial hit last year and Andy Serkis immediately signed up for the sequel. It is clear that Fox wants to move ahead quickly with the film and the wait is less than a year. Colour me excited!

The X-Men: First Class sequel is also in development and will arrive in around a year, with Simon Kinberg (X-Men: The Last Stand) already in the middle of the writing process and Matthew Vaughn set to return in the director’s chair.

Robopocalypse was originally meant to start filming this Fall after post-production for Lincoln is completed but it looks as if Mr. Spielberg will be busy Oscar campaigning for the film, which is why Robopocalypse has been pushed back.

Lastly, the 3D re-release of Star Wars: Episode I and Titanic was financially successful for Fox so the re-release of one of the first CGI blockbuster spectacles and Roland Emmerich’s biggest movie would make sense as well, right? Like it or not, we’re getting Independence Day in 3D.

That just about does it for the major releases but what do you think? Does FOX have a promising slate for 2013/2014?
