Switching from the fun-loving dancing action that its E3 press conference debuted with, Ubisoft and its host Aisha Tyler quickly switched to Far Cry 3 and its tropical insanity. Instead of giving us a brief pre-rendered trailer, the French powerhouse decided to give us what we really wanted: live gameplay action. Not just a brief amount either…lots of it. What we just saw was a lengthy section of the game, which didn’t skimp on expletives, raunchy visuals or the shooter’s promised insanity.

Throughout what was a gorgeous and action-packed demonstration running on a PlayStation 3 console, the Far Cry 3 development team showed us exactly why the game should be on all gamers’ must-play lists. Not only does it look beautiful, but its storyline seems to be one that will create immersion out of confusion, as players control an everyday man who hopes to save his friends from certain death at the hands of a crazed gang. That insanity was certainly evident during scenes that wouldn’t look out of place in a nightmare, as well as the demo’s visceral shootouts, with one even containing a tiger.
