When Reggie said that we’d only get a few minutes of coverage for the 3DS during Nintendo’s press conference today, I wasn’t expecting much to come out of it. Luckily, tomorrow night at 6pm Pacific Nintendo will be giving the 3DS its own press conference. With the limited time, Nintendo did give us a first look at three titles.
The first title to get the spotlight New Super Mario Bros 2. This time, it’s all about the gold. While some classic powerups were shown in the short video (I always had a soft spot for that raccoon tail) but Mario also has the ability to turn his enemies and blocks to gold. It’s an interesting concept for sure, we’re going to have to see how this works out. We won’t have to wait long since New Super Mario Bros 2 hits shelves August 19th.
Mario took the spotlight again with a new Paper Mario title. Paper Mario Sticker Star brings the RPG elements into 3D and add a brand new element in stickers. Mario will be able to pull stickers off the scenery and use them to battle new commands, escape danger or find new items. In the short presentation, Mario pulled off a fan sticker and used it later to spin a windmill to grab some goodies. Paper Mario Sticker Star will be available both physically and digitally this holiday season.
The last game to get a chance to shine was a brand new Luigi’s Mansion title. Luigi’s Mansion 2 introduces multiple mansions with their own mission based challenges. We can expect more puzzles as well as new types of ghosts that will require unique capture strategies. We’ll get back to busting ghosts this holiday season.
There was also a short video shown featuring Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, Disney’s Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, Scribblenauts Unlimited and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Here’s hoping that tomorrow we’ll get a more indepth look at these titles.
