Taken Writer Interested In Writing A Quasi-Sequel For Shooter

Antoine Fuqua‘s 2007 film Shooter was not exactly memorable. Unbeknownst to many though, the film was based on a book, placing it into the category of book-to-film transition films that didn’t exactly make the cut. That’s why it comes as a bit of a shock to learn that a sequel of sorts is in the works.

As mentioned above, the film was based on Stephen Hunter’s 1993 novel called Point of Impact, which is the first novel in a series which revolves around protagonist Bob Lee Swagger (played by Mark Wahlberg in Shooter).

Today, THR is reporting that Robert Mark Kamen (writer of Taken) is interested in working on a script based on the fourth book in the series.

Titled The Sword, the film will be an adaptation of The 47th Samurai, which see Swagger discovering a priceless sword that the Yakuza are willing to kill for.

Considering that Kamen has had a hand in working on scripts for The Karate Kid, The Fifth Element, The Transporter and the upcoming Taken 2, I think he could succeed with this one. After all, the project does kind of sound like a mash-up between The Karate Kid and Taken.

As of now though, that is where the project stands. No start date or director yet and more importantly, no word on whether Wahlberg will return as Swagger. That being said, I can easily see Wahlberg attaching himself to something like this and as we hear more on it we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
