With news regarding Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-Man reboot picking up, star of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies, Kirsten Dunst, recently commented on the the cancelled fourth Spider-Man movie and the Webb reboot.
How work was progressing on Sam Raimi’s fourth film:
“I mean, everyone was coming back, and they were casting a villain. I knew it wasn’t ready to go, but I knew they were working on it. And they decided not to.”
On how she felt about not getting one more chance to play Mary Jane:
“It was only sad because we didn’t know the last one was going to be our last. So we didn’t have that extra little ‘This is the last time, guys.’ We didn’t get to have that grieving. It was a little like, ‘Oh, we’re not doing it, bummer.”
On the responsibilities of the new cast members:
“They have a lot to live up to. I do really like Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. I know that Emma’s playing Gwen Stacy, but I wonder what story they’re gonna tell, because it wasn’t that long ago — we’re not, like, old people. That’s why I’d be nervous.”
On how she thinks the direction of the reboot will now go:
“They’re gonna tell the story, I guess, from the beginning again — but in a different way. But it wasn’t that long ago that we told that story. So the pressure’s on again a little bit in that way. Yeah, they’re in a funny position. But, hey, I’m sure they’re gonna work it out.”
Personally, I could care less about the reboot, it just seems like Twilight set in the Marvel universe, I’m not excited about this movie in the slightest, but I’m sure whenever I see it I’ll have the same feeling for it that I did after watching the remake of The Karate Kid.
And that feeling is that it was decent but doesn’t live up to the original. They need to take this into a completely different direction instead of walking over old bones and redoing the same old story, it kind of feels like how Superman Returns did when they went through his origin once again. We have it, we know how this works, gloss over it for those younlings who don’t and move on.
